(WNY News Now) – BROCTON, N.Y. — A Westfield man was issued an appearance ticket following a trespass investigation in the Village of Brocton, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 16, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m., deputies responded to a trespass complaint on Highland Avenue. Following an investigation, authorities identified the subject involved as James D. Mawhir, 36, of Westfield, New York.

Officials reported that Mawhir was already in custody at the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated matter at the time he was identified in connection with the trespass complaint.

Mawhir was subsequently issued an appearance ticket for trespass. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Portland Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
