(WNY News Now) – A 26-year-old Jamestown woman was arrested Wednesday after police said she allegedly stole merchandise from Tops Markets on Washington Street despite having previously been trespassed from the store.

Jamestown police officers responded to Tops Markets at 2000 Washington St. at about 10:07 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, for a reported shoplifting in progress.

Officers were told the female suspect had left the store and was walking south behind another business on Washington Street. Police located and identified the woman as Alexis S. Wakefield, 26, of Jamestown.

According to police, an investigation determined that Wakefield allegedly took property belonging to Tops Markets. Police also said she had previously been trespassed from the business.

Wakefield was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. She was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and petit larceny.

Wakefield is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
