(WNY News Now) – A 36-year-old Buffalo man has been arraigned on murder and weapons charges in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that Ramone P. James, 36, of Buffalo, was arraigned in Buffalo City Court on one count of second-degree murder and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors allege that on Friday, July 31, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Buffalo Police responded to a residence on the first block of MacAmley Street after receiving a 911 call. A 32-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound and transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where she died the following day.
According to investigators, James is accused of intentionally causing the woman’s death by shooting her with an illegal firearm.
Authorities also allege that investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Kiefer Street on Sunday, Aug. 2, where they recovered an illegal pistol. James was taken into custody following the search.
James was held without bail and is scheduled to return to Buffalo City Court for a felony hearing on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
If convicted of the top charge, James faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
The investigation was conducted by Detective Adam Stephany and the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Unit. The case is being prosecuted by Chief Ashley M. Morgan and Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the Erie County District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau.
The charges are allegations, and James is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
