(WNY News Now) – A Brant couple has been sentenced to jail and probation after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges stemming from the seizure of 216 animals from their farm in November 2025.

Bonnie L. George, 75, and Donald L. George, 78, both of Brant, were sentenced Tuesday in Evans Town Court following their guilty pleas to animal cruelty charges.

Donald George was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years of probation and $2,500 in restitution to the SPCA Serving Erie County. Bonnie George received a 15-day jail sentence and two years of probation.

As a condition of their sentences, the court also issued a lifetime order prohibiting both defendants from owning, harboring, or having custody or control of animals.

The investigation began after a dog control officer contacted the SPCA following an anonymous complaint about animals allegedly living in unsafe conditions on the couple’s farm on Brant Farnham Road.

SPCA investigators inspected the property on Nov. 19, 2025, and reported observing neglected animals and unsanitary conditions. A search warrant was executed the following day, resulting in the seizure of 216 animals.

The animals included:

• 119 goats
• 47 chickens
• 18 ducks and geese
• 11 cats
• Six sheep
• Six dogs

Investigators also reported finding several deceased animals, including goats, deer and fowl.

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, the surviving animals were later forfeited to the custody of the SPCA Serving Erie County.

The investigation also involved two horses that investigators reportedly observed during the initial inspection. The horses were not present when the search warrant was executed, and the defendants did not provide information about their location. The horses have not been located, according to prosecutors.

In June 2026, Bonnie and Donald George each pleaded guilty to two counts of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, a Class A misdemeanor under New York’s Agriculture and Markets Law.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Megan E. Mahoney of the Erie County District Attorney’s Office Animal Cruelty Unit.

District Attorney Michael J. Keane credited SPCA investigators, staff, the ASPCA National Field Response Team and others involved in the rescue and care of the animals.
