(WNY News Now) – A 39-year-old Randolph man was taken into custody Friday on an active Cattaraugus County warrant alleging a violation of sex offender registry requirements.

Richard A. Smith, 39, of Randolph, was arrested Sept. 25, 2026, at approximately 6:13 p.m. after being taken into custody by the Jamestown Police Department, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Smith had an active arrest warrant out of Cattaraugus County for an alleged sex offender registry violation.

Smith was initially taken into custody by Jamestown police and transported to the 7-Eleven in Randolph, where deputies from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office assumed custody.

He was then transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office for processing before being remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
