LOUDENVILLE – Despite an easy reelection, a rash of new bills signed into law and national attention, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s favorability and job performance approval ratings have slipped to the lowest ever recorded for the Governor.
According to a just released Siena College Poll, Cuomo’s favorability rating fell from 51 percent to 43 percent. And, with it, his job performance approval rating also toppled from 43 percent to 35 percent.
“Now, for the first time ever, half of New Yorkers view Andrew Cuomo unfavorably. It’s his lowest favorability rating ever and his lowest-ever job performance as governor,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg. “And it is a dramatic drop in both ratings from last month.
The poll also showed that 52 percent of New Yorkers oppose Congress funding a border wall and 70 percent of those polled do not want President Trump to declare a national emergency to build the wall.
“Politically, Cuomo’s ratings drop is across the board, as he fell with Democrats, Republicans and independents. Geographically, his drop was much bigger downstate – New York City and the suburbs – than upstate, where his ratings were significantly lower previously,” Greenberg said. “The 43 percent of voters who view Cuomo favorably matches exactly the 43 percent of voters who view the State Assembly favorably, and the State Senate.”
Cuomo isn’t alone in his popularity slip, according to the poll.
Sen. Chuck Schumer saw his favorability rating slide from 53 percent to 47 percent.
