    NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James released the following statement after the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York denied a preliminary injunction against New York’s law requiring background checks with ammunition sales in New York State Firearms Association v. James: 

    “Our gun safety laws are meant to protect New Yorkers and help the residents of this state live free from gun violence. Part of these commonsense laws is a strong background check provision for purchasing ammunition, and this court decision will help keep that effort in place. My office will continue to fiercely defend New York’s gun laws because we know that every New Yorker deserves to feel safe in their home and community.” 

    New York’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA), enacted in July 2022, requires individuals to pass a background check when purchasing ammunition. In September 2023, the New York State Firearms Association and four individuals sued to block the enforcement of New York’s law on background checks of ammunition sales. The court denied the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction, finding that they had not shown any likelihood of success on the merits and allowing the law to stay in effect pending the duration of the litigation.

        I’m an ex felon and as of 1969 I’m not able to own a firearm because the law was changed. Prior to that
        If you were out and on probation or
        Parole you could not own a firearm

The entire Democrat party at this point is guilty of these crimes. The ATF, DOJ and FBI are also guilty of the same crimes. Arrest them, try them and if guilty ban/bar them from ever working in any local or Federal law enforcement/regulatory agency in perpetuity.

Didn’t commit a felony that makes you ineligible to own a gun under existing laws? Then relax, you can buy ammunition.

      To all those saying, no big deal, it’s only a background check. If you have a gun or multiple guns you already passed a background check. Many times over.
      This is done under the heading to make us safer. If that were true there would be less gun violence. But there is more, way more so it’s not working.

There’s already laws to have background checks to legally purchase a gun,so adding a background check to legally purchase ammunition for said gun shouldn’t even be an issue.

      It’s a slippery slope. I just found out in Massachusetts, where our nation was born, will put you in jail for having ammo if you don’t have a permit from Mass. Other states conceal carry is no longer recognized. It won’t stop there. You might wanna look up what Benjamin Franklin said about giving up freedom for “security”. If you think these wanna be dictators will stop there you don’t understand what this form of government is and what is going to transpire.

      Hate to break it to all the lefties on here. This matter was settled before I was born. Different constitutional amendment. But same outcome. Everyone needs to understand, if the SCOTUS gets there hands on this. It’s am open and shut case. You can’t tax ammo because it’s an ancillary right. Just like you can’t tax magazines. All 3 parts are needed to adequately use your God given rights. Thanks.

      I love the people that are right up James’s ass, and agree with everything she does. Taxing ammunition is a test to see how they can take gun owners rights. I love how one responder even mentioned Trump in here. They need special bumper stickers, and flags for their homes so when they need help because a criminal is attacking them legal gun owners know not to help them.       Typical Over Reaction. Background checks do not stop you from getting what you seek, unless of course you have done things that indicate you shouldn’t have such weapons. A slight delay won’t hurt. Just plan ahead… Unless of course you are PO’d at your neighbor and want instant access to a gun to carry out your emotions.
