OTTAWA, Ca. – People in Canada seem pretty happy about recreational marijuana, in fact about half a million of them say they’ve lit up before or even at work.

That is just since February, according the latest National Cannabis Survey released last week.

The survey showed about 18 percent of Canadians use marijuana, that’s about 5.3 million people who have smoked the plant in the last 3 months.

That number is a 4 percent bump since this time last year. About 646,000 Canadians tried weed over the last three months, and half are 45 years or older.

Experts say that’s probably because more and more people are turning to marijuana to help with chronic pain, sleep issues, or cancer treatment.

Recreational cannabis was legalized in Canada on October 17, 2018.
