ALBANY — New York’s Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that communities that want to promote emissions-free vehicles can apply for part of $3 million in rebates and grants.

Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos says electric vehicles cost less to operate and are more energy efficient.

Municipalities have until May 29, 2020 to apply for $2.5 million in total grants to install hydrogen filling station components or electric vehicle supply equipment. Those grants require a 20 percent local match and are available for up to $250,000 for a facility and $500,000 for one municipality.

Cuomo’s administration says clean vehicles purchased by municipalities since July can quality for $500,000 in rebates. Plug-in hybrid, all-electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are eligible for rebates of $2,500 to $5,000.
