CATTARAUGUS CREEK – Two kayakers were rescued after they were stranded on the Cattaraugus Creek last weekend.

New York State DEC Forest Rangers, along with other local first responders, were dispatched Saturday at 11 a.m. after one of the two kayakers flipped into the water.

The second kayaker then attempted to rescue the first before losing his own kayak.

One of the kayakers safely made it back to land on the Erie County side of the creek and was able to get out of the area.

The other man made it to land on the Cattaraugus County side but needed rescue.

That is when Forest Rangers responded, with one officer rappelling down to the kayaker, harnessing the man and rescuing him from the area.

The Gowanda Fire Department and Ambulance Company also responded to the scene. However, the kayaker did not require medical assistance.
