Sheriff’s Office Launches Page To Seek New Info In Decades Old Case

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has launched a Facebook page seeking further information into an unsolved murder from nearly 40 years ago.

The victim, known as Jane Doe, was found in the Town of Ellery along Route 17 in 1983.

Doe, according to the page, was between 33 and 27 years old when she was found Dec. 6, 1983.


She had brown hair with some gray and investigators believe she was of European descent.

Investigators say they believed Doe may have had a child in 1968 and she may be from Canada or Europe.

DNA testing has been done on the clothing she was found in.

The page includes pictures of her clothing, as well as a note that was found on her from the Blue Boy Motor Hotel in Vancouver. The note has letters and numbers that have not been deciphered.
