County Reports 11 New COVID-19 Deaths, Most Linked To Nursing Homes

MAYVILLE – The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Chautauqua County continues to rise, this as leaders reported eleven new deaths linked to the virus on Tuesday.

The Chautauqua County Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard says the deaths involved residents above the age of 60.

The Health Department says most of the deaths are from nursing homes reported this month. This is in addition to the 23 deaths reported last week.

Officials say COVID-19 cases in long term care facilities are monitored and managed by the New York State Department of Health. Deaths in those facilities are not generally reported to the county and today’s update reflects efforts to report new data obtained directly from the facilities.

Since the pandemic began 88 deaths connected to COVID-19 have been reported in the county.

The county also reported 38 new cases of the virus on Tuesday, with 406 active and 40 people hospitalized.

The seven-day average percent positivity rate is now 7.5 percent, down from 8.2 percent.
