LAKEWOOD – A 50-year-old Ashville resident is facing charges after police say their dog was left unattended in a vehicle at the Lakewood Walmart early Saturday.
Lakewood-Busti Police say the dog was locked inside a car just before 5 a.m. at the Walmart parking lot for almost 90 minutes while the outside air temperature was 15 degrees.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle’s owner, Genevieve Johnson, inside the superstore.
Johnson is charged with confinement of a companion animal in a motor vehicle during extreme temperatures.
Police say she was released with an appearance ticket for the Town of Busti Court at a later date.
Officers did not specify if the dog was reunited with Johnson.
