ASHVILLE – New video from first responders shows the extent of a fire that destroyed two homes and damaged several others early Thursday morning.
Multiple fire departments were first dispatched to Keller Road near the Ashville Bay Marina on Chautauqua Lake just after 2 a.m.
Lakewood Fire Chief Kurt Hallberg says that two homes were destroyed with seven other properties impacted, however they aren’t “heavily damaged.”
The fire was large in scope, with the heat melting siding off of homes across a nearby canal on Chautauqua Lake.
Hallberg explains that residents are still assessing damage to those properties as of daybreak.
Two people living in one of the houses heard the crackling of the fire through their open window, furthers Hallberg. He says they were able to escape without injury.
No one was home in the other house that was destroyed by flames. One firefighter was taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital for dehydration.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation team is now on scene looking into the cause.
Among the departments dispatched were the Lakewood, Ashville, Busti, Celoron and Kiantone Fire Departments.

Two homes were destroyed and several others damaged by flames around 2 a.m.
