ALBANY – More than 276,000 New Yorkers have ditched the lines at the DMV and took their learner’s permit test online, according to the New York State DMV.

The state opened up the online option for permits in April and many people took advantage.

People taking the online tests will have 30 minutes to finish. If they fail, they can resubmit the application and try again after 6 hours.

You will still have to go in person to the DMV to get your photo taken.
