MAYVILLE – The number of new Coronavirus cases increased over the weekend in Chautauqua County, this as the CDC maintains a substantial level of community transmission locally.

According to the County Health Department’s COVID-19 Dashboard, 49 new cases of the virus were reported from Friday through Sunday. Of the new cases, 25 are in Jamestown.

There are now 123 active cases countywide, with 5 people hospitalized.

County health officials say the COVID-19 Delta Variant is likely to blame for the uptick in activity.

They continue to urge those not yet vaccinated to do so. So far, according to state vaccine totals, over 65,000 people have received at least one dose of the shot making up just 50 percent of the county’s population.

To date, there have been over 9,554 known cases reported with 9,272 of patients recovering and 159 related deaths.
