JAMESTOWN – Area teachers are gearing up to return to school this fall, with help from a nationally renowned early childhood educational expert.

This week, Lisa Murphy, founder of Ooey Gooey Incorporated, spoke to educators during a presentation at the Northwest Arena in Downtown Jamestown.

Murphy, who has held workshops with educators for decades, says her message is simple as she urges teaches to take a breath, and connect with their students as if it was their first, and last, day in school.

“There’s a big difference between, I’m so glad you’re here and ‘get on your mat’, ‘one, two, three, eyes on me’, ‘criss-cross applesauce,’ ‘I’ll call your mother,’” explained Murphy. “I want to remind everyone that is joining us for the next two days that the first piece, ‘I’m so glad you’re here,’ is where we are waning everyone to be on that first day.”

In total Murphy offers 15 different workshop topics to help teachers prepare. She says this year in particular, it is very important to connect with kids directly before the lesson starts.
