Former County Sheriff Appointed To New Police Chief Role

FREDONIA – A former Sheriff in Chautauqua County has been appointed as the Village of Fredonia’s next Police Chief.

Village trustees voted 3 to 1 appointing Joseph Gerace as the village’s next top cop during their meeting on Monday.


According to the resolution, Gerace will make $88,800 dollars a year with his salary increasing annually to $93,800 once his appointment becomes permanent.

He served as Chautauqua County Sheriff for 24 years. Most recently, Gerace was the director of campus security and safety at Chautauqua Institution.

Gerace will officially start the job on Monday, December 13.
