MAYVILLE – A former Chautauqua County Executive has passed away.

John “Jack” Glenzer served as Chautauqua County’s second county executive from 1983 to 1989.

Current County Executive PJ Wendel announced his death on Wednesday.


Throughout his tenure, Glenzer focused on creating jobs, improved the county’s road and bridge infrastructure, and even helped open the South County Transfer Station in Falconer.

Before his time in Mayville, he served our country as a member of the U.S. Army.

Wendel in a statement said, “Glenzer meant so much to so many people in our county, he was a great mentor and friend, who left a legacy for us in county government.”











He was 91.
