JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities is expected to start water main flushing next week, weather permitting.
The BPU flushes the water lines twice a year to get rid of naturally-occurring sediments. They also check the condition of the fire hydrants, and fix any issues they might run into.
The process starts in Falconer in the areas of Aldren, Mapleshade, Ralph and Valmeere Streets, this will take place Friday, April 29 at 1p.m. They will continue work throughout the rest of the village Saturday, April 30 and go overnight into Sunday, May 1.
Flushing of the remaining water system will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30p.m. starting May 2 until May 6 and May 9 until May 11. With the expectation of May 4, when the flushing will start at 4:30 a.m. to accommodate the businesses and restaurants on Fairmount Avenue.
During those times, flushing will likely discolor water, especially when water line cleaning takes place in the customers’ immediate areas.
