FREWSBURG – A fundraiser is underway to help the victims of a fatal fire in Frewsburg.

Several fire departments responded to the blaze at a multi-unit apartment house at 83 West Main Street on Monday morning.

A deceased victim was later located by crews checking for hotspots throughout the home.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Team is still working to identify what started the blaze, which not only claimed a life, but also left several homeless.

Even though the other occupants of the home are receiving assistance from the Red Cross, the community is coming together to help raise money.

A GoFundMe page was posted Monday afternoon seeking donations to help those who lost all of their possessions, only walking away with the clothing on their backs.

As of Tuesday morning, the fire’s victim has not been identified by officials.
