GERRY, NY (WNY News Now) – Officials with the Gerry Rodeo are touting another year of success for the annual fundraiser that benefits the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department.

Last week, nearly 10,000 people turned out for the four-night event that drew spectators and participants from all over the country, and even outside the U.S.

Contestants from as far as Brazil paid to compete for a large cash prize in a variety of activities including steer wrestling, bull riding and tie down roping.

The local fire department has hosted the rodeo since 1945 when the idea was first pitched.

Planning for next year’s events, organizers tell us, is already underway.
