ROCHESTER, NY (Erie News Now) – Wegmans is ending a feature that was popular with a lot of shoppers, and apparently some shoplifters as well.
At the beginning of the pandemic, Wegmans rolled out an option for customers to shop by using an app on their phone to scan and bag their items.
Wegmans has now announced it is dropping the scanning technology, and the app altogether.
They released a statement on the decision, that said while customers loved it, it just wasn’t working.
They said losses from the program were just too much for the company to take.
The Wegmans scan app will be retired on Sunday, September 18th.
