ALBANY, NY (WENY) – Gov. Kathy Hochul joined President Joe Biden for a White House briefing on Hurricane Fiona where Biden promised federal funding to fully cover the costs related to the aftermath of the storm.

“We’ll do everything—everything we can to meet the urgent needs you have. And we know they’re real and they’re significant,” said Biden.

Friday, Hochul announced new actions to help residents of Puerto Rico by calling on New York state-chartered banks to waive ATM and late fees, increase ATM withdrawal limits, and expedite transmission funds.

And earlier this week, Hochul announced she will be sending more than a hundred troopers from the New York State Police Department to Puerto Rico. She added that her office is lining up medical supplies and resources from SOMOS, Red Cross, and the New York Hospital Association.

As Hurricane Fiona continues to struggle with power, Hochul is speaking with the Power Authority in New York to assist Puerto Rico in restoring the grid.

The hurricane currently stands at Category 4 and is headed towards Canada. It has already torn through the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, leaving eight people dead and thousands displaced without power.
