CHAUTAUQUA, NY (WNY News Now) – An investigation continues after a Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputy struck an Amish Buggy overnight.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says this accident happened on Stockton-Hartfield Road in the Town of Chautauqua just after 9 p.m. on Sunday.

A marked patrol car was traveling northwest when it rear ended the buggy traveling 55 m.p.h. on the unlit road. The Amish buggy was heavily damaged and the horse had to be put down due to it’s injuries.

Five people in the buggy were transported to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital in Jamestown. The deputy was not hurt.
