North Tonawanda, NY (WNY News Now) – A North Tonawanda man has admitted guilt in receiving child pornography, a charge carrying a possible 20-year prison term and a $250,000 fine.
Michael Angstenberger, 48, hailing from North Tonawanda, NY, has entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara for his involvement in receiving child pornography.
Angstenberger employed a fraudulent Snapchat account, using the username “catybug1234,” to exploit and solicit sexually explicit images from underage girls. His modus operandi included assuming the identity of a minor girl to engage in these illicit communications. Shockingly, Angstenberger’s interactions extended across state lines and even international borders, involving minor victims situated in various states and countries.
One of the victims identified as Victim 1, a 12-year-old girl residing in Kentucky, fell prey to Angstenberger’s manipulation on December 5, 2021. Angstenberger coerced Victim 1 into sending him explicit photos. Similarly, Victim 2, an 11 to 12-year-old girl from Arkansas, also complied with Angstenberger’s vile requests by sending him sexually explicit images.
The sentencing phase is scheduled to occur on December 1, 2023, with Judge Arcara presiding over the case.
