JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – Reports of a dog living in less than desirable conditions made way to a City Council meeting last Monday, with the dog ultimately being removed from the residence.
The dog in question is allegedly suffering from malnutrition and mange, among other health issues, and has since been removed from the residence and placed in Pick Of The Litter shelter in Falconer. The allegations in regard to the dog’s health have yet to be confirmed or denied by an authority.
Animal advocate Merry Williams-Diers accounts a time of a different dog living in unfit conditions and not being removed to the council.
“Last time DCO was asked to remove a dog, and that did not happen, I have records of the dog being located deceased so I wanted to attend and speak on behalf and hopefully save this dog before it ends up in the same predicament,” said Williams-Diers.
Williams-Diers did speak with WNY News Now to provide an exclusive statement on the situation, stating; “There is a serious lack of procedures, dog rescues, and resources in Jamestown to prevent these situations from escalating and animals continuing to be neglected. There were over 15 calls made on behalf of the dog to try and seek assistance through the Jamestown Police Department and the DCO, but because the dog is suspected to have mange I was told that is what prevented the dog from being seized sooner.”
We have reached out to Pick Of The Litter, but they did not provide a statement.
