(WNY News Now) – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) has reintroduced the Strengthening Entry Visa Enforcement and Restrictions Act (SEVER Act) to bar Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and others tied to the Iranian regime from entering the United States. This move precedes President Raisi’s attendance at the UN General Assembly.
Washington D.C. – In an effort to prevent Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and associated regime figures from setting foot on American soil, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) reintroduced the Strengthening Entry Visa Enforcement and Restrictions Act (SEVER Act). Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) is an original cosponsor, and the Senate has its own version, introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and backed by a group of prominent Republican senators.
This legislation takes aim at President Raisi due to his involvement in extensive human rights abuses and orchestration of global terrorist activities. Raisi has openly advocated for the assassination of several American officials, including former President Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“As we approach the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly, it is imperative we stop Raisi and his associates from setting foot on American soil,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “Raisi, whose nickname is ‘the Butcher of Tehran,’ has a record of grave human rights abuses and orchestrating terrorist activities worldwide.”
Senator Cruz criticized President Biden’s approach, stating, “Raisi is a monster who has called for the assassination of President Trump and other U.S. officials and committed horrific abuses against the people of Iran. The SEVER Act is targeted legislation that would do what President Biden is unwilling to do—deny Raisi and other Iranian individuals who pose threats to American national security visas into the United States.”
