Man Detained on Multiple Weapon Charges


(WNY News Now) – On November 2, 2023, a 25-year-old resident of Carlton, NY, was apprehended by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in SP Batavia on multiple weapon-related charges, following a report of alleged illegal weapons possession received on October 30, 2023.

Batavia – The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, operating out of SP Batavia, executed the arrest of Benjamin T. Hayes, 25, from Carlton, NY, on November 2, 2023, on several charges related to illegal weapon possession. Hayes is now facing allegations of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree, totaling 25 counts (classified as a D Felony), Criminal Possession of a Firearm, comprising 2 counts (classified as an E Felony), Unlawful Purchase of Body Armor (an E Felony), and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, consisting of 5 counts (classified as an A Misdemeanor).

The arrest was the result of an investigation launched after the Bureau of Criminal Investigation received a tip on October 30, 2023, indicating possible illegal weapons possession. Subsequent investigations, culminating in the execution of a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, confirmed the presence of a substantial cache of illegal weapons. These included a privately manufactured “ghost gun,” 3-D printed pistol receivers, pistols, unregistered Safe Act rifles, high-capacity magazines, body armor, ammunition, and equipment used in the private manufacturing of gun parts.


Following his arrest, Benjamin T. Hayes was transported to the Orleans County Jail for a centralized arraignment.
