(WNY News Now) – Torn Space Theater presents Harold Pinter’s 1965 drama, “The Homecoming,” the story of Teddy, a professor, who brings wife Ruth to meet his family, unraveling a web of rage and complex emotions.

Buffalo – In this two-act play, Teddy’s return to his London home sparks tension among his father Max, brothers Lenny and Joey, and Uncle Sam. Ruth’s presence unveils a narrative woven with anger and sexual ambiguity in the predominantly male household, providing a compelling exploration of familial dynamics.

We’re in the final stretch of rehearsals and look forward to welcoming audiences to this exciting interpretation of Harold Pinter’s masterpiece, The Homecoming. From the directors-

“More than perhaps any playwright, Harold Pinter articulates the rhythm of silence and ambiguity, highlighted by a precise control of language. In Pinter’s world, characters control language because it allows them to control and to design their reality.

Characters in The Homecoming attempt to wield control in many ways to include control over langue, identity, the body, and memories. The latter puts The Homecoming on unstable ground where characters use past stories to construct new realities that weaponize memories to produce disorientation.”

– Dan Shanahan & Melissa Meola
