(WNY News Now) – RAICES, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, headquartered in Texas, has strongly criticized the Biden administration’s stance on asylum in an open letter, citing bipartisan disregard for the dignity and safety of asylum-seekers.

San Antonio, TX- In response to the latest attacks against asylum in congressional budget negotiations, RAICES released the following statement via spokesperson Faisal Al-Juburi:

We are once again faced with the bipartisan dehumanization of our asylum-seeking community members as political pawns. Promises for a humane immigration system have not only been broken but flagrantly shattered by the Biden administration — reminding us once again why we need to be resolute and determined in our pursuit of a just immigration system in the U.S.

In an effort to appease elected officials holding our nation hostage during budget negotiations, the Biden administration is risking the lives of families and people brave enough to fight for their dignity and safety. It’s petty politics — and what the last two decades of immigration history tell us is that these desperate tactics don’t even work.

No one in this political performance wins. Cruelty is the point.
