(WNY News Now) – A 52-year-old male is facing a slew of charges, including Strangulation, Criminal Contempt, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, following a violent domestic incident on the North Side.
On 1/28/24 at 12:00 PM, Jamestown Police’s First Platoon responded to a female victim reporting a past domestic incident involving Maurice Akins. The victim disclosed that on 1/27/24, an argument with Akins turned physical, escalating to him striking her face and subsequently strangling her while threatening her life. Akins was also accused of violating an order of protection involving a 16-year-old present during the incident.
Responding officers arrested Akins at his North Side residence, discovering a loaded semi-automatic pistol. Akins, lacking a New York State pistol permit, now faces charges of Strangulation 2nd degree, Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd degree, Assault 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Contempt 2nd degree. He is held at Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
