(WNY News Now) – Celoron, NY – On February 25, 2024, Celoron FD and mutual aid departments responded to a car and garage fire at 21 North Alleghany Avenue in the Town of Ellicott. The subsequent investigation uncovered an accidental origin due to unsafe use of heating implements during vehicle repairs.

On the afternoon of February 25, 2024, the Celoron Fire Department, assisted by several mutual aid fire departments, responded to a distress call reporting a car and garage fire at 21 North Alleghany Avenue in the Town of Ellicott. Despite efforts by fire personnel, the fire rapidly extended from the detached garage to the adjoining house.

Upon successfully extinguishing the flames, the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team investigated the cause and origin of the incident. Subsequent investigations, which included a hands-on examination and interviews with the homeowner/occupant, determined that the fire originated in the detached garage. The root cause was identified as the unsafe use of heating implements during vehicle repair activities.


The fire, initiated by the vehicle, first consumed the garage and then swiftly engulfed the nearby residence. Tragically, both structures were rendered completely destroyed by the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection to the incident.
