(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – On May 19, 2024, at approximately 7:36 AM, the Jamestown Police Department, alongside the Jamestown Fire Department and Allstar Ambulance, responded to a reported structure fire at a condemned residence at 234 Fulton Street, Jamestown, NY. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a severely injured victim nearby who had jumped from a second-story window to escape the blaze. The victim sustained significant injuries and was transported to UPMC Chautauqua Emergency Room before being transferred to another hospital for further treatment.

After the fire was extinguished, investigators concluded it was an act of arson. The Jamestown Police Detective Bureau quickly identified and apprehended a suspect, 34-year-old Eric A. Courtier of Mayville, NY. Evidence suggested that Courtier deliberately set the fire knowing the victim was inside.

Courtier was arrested on May 22, 2024, in Mayville and transported to Jamestown City Jail. He faces charges of Arson in the First Degree (A-I Felony) and Assault in the First Degree (B Felony). Courtier was arraigned on May 23, 2024, before Judge George Panebianco in Jamestown City Court and remanded to Chautauqua County Jail without bail.
