(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, N.Y. – A 33, of Buffalo, NY, pleaded guilty today to distributing drugs that led to a fatal overdose, announced U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross. Sweat faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey N. Jacovetti revealed that on April 18, 2022, Darryl Sweat, 33, sold cocaine to a customer, V.O. Two days later, V.O. was found dead. An autopsy cited acute mixed drug intoxication from cocaine, fentanyl, para-fluorofentanyl, and tramadol as the cause. Investigators later made two controlled cocaine buys from Sweat in May 2022.
This conviction resulted from a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino, III, and the Buffalo Police Department, under Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia.
Sentencing is set for October 18, 2024, before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.
