Jamestown, NY — In the early hours of June 20, 2024, officers from the Jamestown Police Department conducted a traffic stop at approximately 1:51 AM on Newland Avenue near Barrett Avenue for an observed equipment violation. The routine stop quickly escalated into a significant arrest involving drugs and illegal weapons.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old Lakewood resident Tonya S. Thwing, allegedly was found in possession of a bludgeon, an illegal weapon in New York State. Further investigation and search of the vehicle revealed another prohibited weapon, a billy club.

Upon taking Thwing into custody, officers discovered a quantity of methamphetamine and buprenorphine/naloxone sublingual films on her person. As a result, Thwing was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree.

Following her arrest, Thwing was booked at the Jamestown City Jail. She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Jamestown City Court. In addition to the criminal charges, Thwing received multiple uniform traffic tickets for the equipment violations that initially prompted the stop.
