Jamestown Resident Apprehended After Attempting to Evade Police on Bicycle
Jamestown, NY – On June 23, 2024, at approximately 6:08 PM, Jamestown police officers arrested 24-year-old William R. Gardner after a brief chase that started on W 8th St and Jefferson St. Gardner, a Jamestown resident, was taken into custody for resisting arrest, Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) violations, and an outstanding bench warrant.
Officers spotted Gardner riding a bicycle on the sidewalk on E 8th St and Spring St, heading west. With prior knowledge of an active warrant for his arrest, the officers initiated a vehicle and traffic stop using emergency lights and sirens. Instead of complying, Gardner allegedly fled westbound on W 8th St, leading officers on a chase through side streets and backyards.
Gardner was eventually located as he tried to enter a residence. He exited the building shortly after and was taken into custody without further incident. Following his arrest, Gardner was transported to the city jail and is currently held pending arraignment at Jamestown City Court.
Gardner faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest, various VTL violations, and the outstanding bench warrant.
