(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – A routine street check escalated into a pursuit ending in the arrest of a Jamestown resident with outstanding warrants.
On June 29, 2024, at approximately 4:54 PM, officers from the 2nd platoon observed Marcelino S. Hernandez, a 42-year-old resident of Jamestown, operating a bicycle on the sidewalk near E 3rd St and N Main St. Recognizing Hernandez and aware of his outstanding warrants, the officers initiated a vehicle and traffic stop using emergency lights and sirens.
Hernandez attempted to evade the officers by fleeing on his bicycle, leading them on a pursuit towards Pine St and into a nearby alley. The officers exited their patrol car and continued the chase on foot towards E 4th St, ultimately apprehending Hernandez and transporting him to the city jail.
During the arrest, Hernandez was allegedly found in possession of Suboxone sublingual films, a controlled substance. He now faces charges of Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Vehicle and Traffic Law violations, in addition to the outstanding bench warrants.
Hernandez is currently held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, Hernandez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
