(WNY News Now) – Pomfret – In a dramatic incident, a 79-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and fell into a garbage pit at the North County Transfer Station, prompting a swift rescue by local authorities.

On July 11, 2024, at approximately 11:31 AM, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the North County Transfer Station in the Town of Pomfret following reports of a man being struck by a vehicle and subsequently falling into a garbage pit. The injured individual, a 79-year-old male, was in urgent need of rescue.

Upon arrival, deputies coordinated with members of the Fredonia Fire Department, who efficiently executed the rescue operation. The elderly man was successfully extricated from the garbage pit and promptly transported to the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) for treatment of injuries sustained to his legs.
