Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Eddy mobile unit arrives in Jamestown to enhance early lung cancer detection with cutting-edge technology on wheels.
(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, NY – On July 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the City of Jamestown will host an innovative healthcare initiative at Bergman Park. Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, in collaboration with the City of Jamestown, is launching its Early Detection Driven to You (Eddy) mobile lung cancer screening unit. This groundbreaking program aims to bring essential lung cancer screenings directly to the community, underscoring a commitment to proactive health measures and early intervention.
The event will feature notable attendees, including Mayor Kimberly Ecklund, Ben McLaughlin, Firefighter & JPFFA President, and Dr. Mary Reid, MSPH, PhD, from Roswell Park. Representatives from Congressman Langworthy’s and Senator Borrello’s offices will also be present.
Eddy’s visit highlights the pressing need for early lung cancer detection, particularly for those in high-risk occupations such as firefighting. Firefighters face an increased risk of lung cancer due to occupational exposures, making early screening crucial for improving survival rates and treatment outcomes. The Eddy unit will offer convenient and accessible screenings to help detect lung cancer in its earliest stages, when treatment is most effective.
This event is open to the public and will serve as a platform to discuss the importance of regular screenings. Individuals eligible for lung cancer screening include those aged 50 to 79 with a history of significant smoking or those with a history of lung, esophageal, head, or neck cancers.
