(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – A 34-year-old homeless man, Eric Courtier, has been arraigned following an indictment by a Chautauqua County Grand Jury for charges of Arson in the First Degree and Arson in the Second Degree. The indictment stems from an incident where Courtier allegedly set fire to a condemned house at 234 Fulton Street, resulting in severe injuries to another homeless individual sleeping upstairs.

Courtier faces severe charges with the first-degree arson being a class A-1 violent felony, and the second-degree arson a class B violent felony. The fire not only inflicted significant injuries on the victim but also caused substantial damage to the building, which was under the jurisdiction of the Jamestown Department of Development.

Courtier is currently presumed innocent until proven guilty. His case is slated for a conference on August 26, 2024, in Chautauqua County Court. District Attorney Jason Schmidt has expressed gratitude to the Jamestown Police Department for their diligent efforts in this case.
