(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – On August 3, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s First Platoon responded to a report of a suspicious individual in the vicinity of McKinley Avenue and Terrace Place. Upon arrival, they encountered Carl R. Vergith, a 36-year-old homeless man.

During their investigation, officers discovered that Vergith was in possession of an ATV previously reported stolen from Ashville, NY. Consequently, Vergith was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, a felony. He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
