(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. – Raekwon Gordon, a 25-year-old resident of Buffalo, was arrested and charged with serious federal offenses, including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and illegal possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. If convicted, Gordon faces a potential life sentence.
The charges stem from an April 5, 2024, incident in which Buffalo Police attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Bailey Avenue. The vehicle, driven recklessly, led officers on a high-speed chase, eventually stopping in a driveway on Roslyn Street. During the pursuit, officers discovered a loaded firearm discarded in a neighboring yard and a machine gun on a nearby sidewalk. Gordon, along with two other occupants, was apprehended at the scene.
A search of the vehicle revealed 336 fentanyl pills, and $5,526 in cash was found on Gordon. Further investigation confirmed Gordon’s DNA on the recovered machine gun. With prior felony convictions in 2018 and 2022, Gordon is legally barred from firearm possession.
Gordon was presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer and is currently held awaiting a detention hearing. The investigation was conducted by the Buffalo Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
It is important to note that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
