(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – A tense encounter on the Riverwalk Trail in Jamestown led to the arrest of two residents after one threatened officers with a knife, prompting a multi-agency manhunt.

On the morning of August 26, 2024, a routine operation to assist the Department of Defense (DOD) escalated into a high-stakes situation on the Riverwalk Trail in Jamestown. Officers discovered a tent off the trail occupied by two individuals: Robin J. Brown, 52, and Autumn M. Simmons, 36, both residents of Jamestown.

The situation quickly turned volatile when Autumn Simmons, upon contact with the officers, became disorderly and physically obstructive. As officers investigated, they learned of the possible presence of a young child at the site. Although no child was found, the officers did locate Robin Brown in one of the tents.

The situation escalated dramatically when Brown produced a large knife and, despite commands from the officers, advanced toward them in a threatening manner. The officers drew their weapons and ordered Brown to drop the knife, but he fled into the dense woods, sparking an intense manhunt.

A perimeter was swiftly established, and assistance was called in from multiple agencies, including the Jamestown Fire Department, Lakewood-Busti K9 Unit, New York State Police, and the Town of Ellicott Police Department. After an extensive search, Jamestown K9 Officer Kraft and his K9 partner, Kal, successfully located and apprehended Brown.

Brown now faces several charges, including Menacing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, and Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree. Simmons was charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree. Both individuals are currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
