(WNY News Now) – Rochester, NY — A Rochester-area business owner has pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return, admitting to concealing over $3 million in revenue, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross. Anthony Carnevale, 53, of North Chili, faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Carnevale, the owner of VIP Maintenance Inc., operating as College Bound Sealers, failed to report $3,000,580 in revenue from customer payments between 2017 and 2021. Prosecutors say he diverted the funds by cashing customer checks, paying fees to a check-cashing business, and disbursing over $2.1 million in cash wages to employees. Carnevale retained more than $731,000 for personal use, leaving $499,173 in unpaid federal taxes, including $171,217 in personal income taxes and $327,956 in payroll taxes.
The plea is the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, under the direction of Thomas Fattorusso, Special Agent-in-Charge, New York Field Division.
Carnevale’s sentencing is scheduled for March 18, 2025, before Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
