(WNY News Now) – In response to hazardous weather conditions, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has enforced restrictions on Interstate 90. This applies to the entire stretch between the New York State Line near Ripley, NY, and the Pennsylvania State Line near Springfield Township.
Effective immediately, the ban prohibits all commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) from traveling this route, except for loaded CMVs equipped with chains. This precaution is aimed at ensuring road safety as the region braces for severe weather.
All lanes of I-90 remain open to non-commercial traffic, but authorities urge drivers to exercise caution. The ban will remain in place until further notice, with updates provided via NY Alert and 511NY.org.
Motorists traveling through the area should plan alternate routes and prepare for potential delays. Truck operators are advised to ensure their vehicles meet safety requirements before considering travel in affected areas.
