(WNY News Now) – The City of Lockport has declared a Code Blue alert, offering shelter from freezing temperatures from December 11th until the 14th, with extended support into the weekend.
As winter temperatures plunge below freezing, the City of Lockport has activated a Code Blue emergency shelter plan, effective from Wednesday, December 11th through Friday, December 13th, 2024. The measure, called by Mayor Lombardi, aims to provide a safe refuge for homeless individuals and those without heating during the cold snap.
With overnight temperatures forecast to dip below freezing throughout the period, this Code Blue alert remains in effect until 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 14th. During this time, anyone in need of shelter can seek refuge at the Salvation Army, located in the heart of Lockport. The Salvation Army will be open to receive individuals between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. nightly.
For those arriving after the 10 p.m. cutoff, the Lockport Police Department offers a walk-up window service at the Niagara Street entrance. This initiative ensures that individuals can still access emergency shelter even after hours, with the police department providing assistance to those seeking refuge from the harsh cold.
Lockport officials urge residents to share this important information with those in need of shelter. For more information, individuals can contact the City Clerk’s office at (716) 439-6674 or email cityclerk@lockportny.gov.
