(WNY News Now) – Join the Audubon Community Nature Center on January 11 for a hands-on adventure as Little Explorers discover how animals and plants survive the chill of winter.

Wetland animals have many structures and behaviors to help them survive the cold winter months. On Saturday, January 11, 10–11:30 a.m., you and your 3 to 8-year-old(s) can join other Audubon Community Nature Center Little Explorers and their adults to learn about these creatures.

Some animals go dormant or hibernate and some migrate, leaving for warmer climates. Others have thick fur or find other ways to keep warm while remaining active throughout the winter. Plants are also finding ways to survive or protect their seeds through frozen water and cold temperatures.

Join Little Explorers to learn more about what the animals and plants in this area do to survive the cold temperatures and reduced food availability. After a short lesson, head outside to explore the wetlands, look for evidence of animals, and see what the living things found in or near the ponds are doing in the winter.

A snack is provided after the hike, and a craft is offered if there is time. Little Explorers takes place rain or shine, so dress for the weather. The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 3–8 and Nature Center members. Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total.

To make your paid reservations required by Thursday, January 9, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours or go to AudubonCNC.org and click through Programs and Events.
