Residents in northern Erie and Genesee Counties are advised to prepare for hazardous winter conditions, particularly during the Monday morning and evening commutes.
Snow and Winds to Create Challenging Travel Conditions
The advisory warns of a quick burst of snow impacting the entire Buffalo metro area during the Monday morning commute. Following this, lake effect snow is expected to develop over the Buffalo Southtowns and southwest Genesee County later in the day, persisting through Monday evening.
- Expected Accumulation:
- General areas: 1 to 3 inches.
- Persistent lake-effect zones south of Buffalo and southwest Genesee County: 3 to 6 inches.
- Winds: Gusts up to 35 mph, contributing to blowing and drifting snow in some areas.
Key Impacts
The combination of snow-covered and slippery roads, along with reduced visibility, could create hazardous travel conditions. Motorists should anticipate potential delays during peak travel hours on Monday.
Localized Weather Variations
Lake-effect snow can lead to rapid weather changes, with heavy snow bands causing significant visibility reduction in some areas while nearby locations remain dry. Travelers are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on road conditions.
