(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo resident has been charged with drug trafficking following a multi-agency investigation.
Alexis Perez, Jr., 21, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and cocaine, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross. If convicted, the charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years, and a fine of up to $5 million.
The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Cheektowaga Police Department, began in June 2024 after Cheektowaga officers identified Perez as a suspect in crack cocaine distribution in the Buffalo area. Authorities conducted several undercover drug purchases and executed a search warrant at Perez’s residence on Cambridge Avenue and on his vehicle.
During the searches, investigators recovered a shotgun, ammunition, quantities of fentanyl and cocaine, and a metal press used in drug manufacturing, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Donna Duncan.
DEA Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino and Cheektowaga Police Chief Brian Coons commended the collaborative effort that led to the arrest.
It is important to note that a criminal complaint is only an allegation. Perez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
